BrightSpire Capital expects little or no near-term loan-portfolio growth as management protects liquidity amid interest-rate volatility, a stance that may delay deployments and positive dividend coverage for the company.

Management expects interest-rate volatility to slow loan growth and is prioritizing liquidity and balance-sheet strength. It may delay additional deployments, which could postpone positive dividend coverage.

Management is also cautious about further stock repurchases while preserving liquidity. BrightSpire repurchased about 2.1 million shares in the third quarter.

CEO and Director Michael Mazzei said, “We have repurchased stock over the past several quarters, including approximately 2.1 million shares during the third quarter.”
