Waters Corporation announced an AI feature for pharmaceutical labs that automates selected chromatography review tasks, with early customer access planned for December 2026.

Called AI-Powered Peak Integration, the feature will be a premium subscription capability in Empower Software. Chromatograms are graphs that show compounds separated from a mixture. The tool uses artificial intelligence and machine learning trained on each lab’s data to remove noise peaks, combine high-molecular-weight peaks and edit baselines.

In an internal 2025 pilot with a global pharmaceutical partner, manual interventions across 400 chromatograms fell from 90 to four. That was a 95% reduction. The partner was not named.

Reviews were 50% faster and variation between users was 72% lower in a 2026 customer evaluation. The company is enrolling customers for early access beginning in December 2026. Validated, compliant deployment is planned for mid-2027.

Tina Wu, senior vice president of Waters Analytical Sciences, said: “Waters is using AI to help customers bring drugs to market faster and to increase the quality testing of manufactured molecules.”
