Anthropic is extending its AI for Science program beyond individual researchers to 20 partners, including foundations, research institutions and research groups, widening access to Claude credits for scientific work.

The Oct. 28 expansion lets partners distribute free Claude credits to researchers and institutions. The tools can help researchers test hypotheses, plan experiments, analyze complex data and communicate findings.

Hundreds of projects have received support since the program began in May 2025. Their fields include biology, medicine, physics, chemistry, climate science and mathematics.

The partners span funders, scientific societies and research institutions. The list includes the Simons Foundation, Schmidt Sciences, Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Open Source for Science Fund at Renaissance Philanthropy, CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society, and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF).

Research institutions in the program include Gladstone Institutes, the Space Telescope Science Institute, the Francis Crick Institute, Wellcome Sanger Institute, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory and Imperial College London’s Department of Life Sciences.

Project-level partners include Tau Ceti, AstroPath at Johns Hopkins University, FlyWire at Princeton University, gnomAD at the Broad Institute, LEAP at Columbia University and the Centre for Population Genomics.

Many of the collaborations aim to create resources for wider scientific use, including open datasets, open-source software, open standards and shared libraries. Earlier work with HHMI Janelia Research Campus includes the Model Hardware Standard, a shared specification for AI agents to operate lab instruments safely. The standard is in research preview. Anthropic also continues to support the Allen Institute, where AI agents are being used to analyze large datasets in less time than manual methods.
