Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (TSIA) Chairman 侯永清 forecast the association’s combined member output value would rise 40.9% in 2026 to more than NT$9.1 trillion, underscoring the scale of the island’s chip-sector expansion.

At TSIA’s 30th anniversary meeting on Oct. 29, 侯永清 said member output value stood at NT$6.5 trillion at the end of 2025. He also said Taiwan ranks first globally by output value in wafer manufacturing and packaging and testing, and second in IC design.

TSIA’s board approved a resolution supporting a government assessment of whether to restart nuclear plants, subject to legal requirements and safety. 侯永清 said reliable electricity is important as semiconductor companies expand production.

TSIA has also worked with government agencies to find land for materials and chemical suppliers expanding to meet AI-related demand. Four materials companies completed related procedures with the government and plan to begin building factories in April 2027; seven others are still processing their procedures.
