xU3O8 Adds Lending, Trading and Institutional Custody Options
Metals.io launched borrowing on Monarch Sept. 9, 2026, with Morpho powering the service and USDC as the initial loan asset.

Uranium token xU3O8 has expanded from a custody-backed digital asset into trading and lending platforms, giving holders more ways to use a token that represents beneficial ownership of stored uranium.
Holders could use xU3O8 as collateral on Oku by March 20, 2026. Metals.io made borrowing against the token available on Monarch on Sept. 9, 2026, with Morpho powering the service and USDC as the initial loan asset.
The token’s public offering began Dec. 3, 2024. Built on Etherlink, xU3O8 is an ERC-20-compatible token that records beneficial co-ownership of uranium held in custody. At launch, each token represented one ounce. After additional tokens were minted, each came to represent a proportional share of the uranium pool and may no longer equal one ounce.
Custody support has also widened. Hex Trust added Etherlink and xU3O8 custody support in August 2025. Anchorage Digital Bank offers institutional clients segregated custody for xU3O8 and other Etherlink assets.
“Institutions are not short on interest in tokenized real-world assets. They are short on places to hold them that satisfy a risk framework,” said Nathan McCauley, CEO and co-founder of Anchorage Digital.
Kraken opened xU3O8 trading on July 30, 2026. Access through Kraken’s app and Instant Buy depends on liquidity, and geographic restrictions may apply.
The uranium is ore concentrate, also known as yellowcake, which requires further processing to become nuclear fuel. Archax Ltd. acts as trustee for the uranium held in a Cameco storage account. Transfers of xU3O8 update beneficial ownership records but do not move the uranium itself.
Physical delivery is unavailable to people who are not regulated persons, and redemption requires an approved custody account. Approved trading venues provide price discovery for xU3O8, which has no formal peg to uranium spot prices.
