Lynas Expects Lower Malaysia Production During Shutdown Lasting About a Month
The December-quarter work includes electrical and kiln maintenance. A separate shutdown of about two weeks is planned at Kalgoorlie.

Lynas Rare Earths expects production at its Malaysian plant to fall in the December quarter, or Q2 FY27, while planned maintenance takes the site offline for about a month. A separate shutdown of about two weeks is scheduled at Kalgoorlie during the same quarter.
The Malaysian work includes electrical maintenance required every three years and preventive work, including kiln maintenance. Lynas has not given dates for the shutdown or estimated how much production will decline.
Western Power is modifying its network during the Kalgoorlie outage. Lynas plans to use the stoppage for projects intended to support productivity and reliability, but has not quantified the effect on output.
The maintenance follows a record quarter for ready-for-sale neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr) production at Lynas Malaysia, which reached 2,082 metric tons in Q1 FY27. Total rare-earth oxide production was 4,254 metric tons for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026.
Earlier concentrate-quality issues continued to affect July production, while stronger output in August and September lifted the quarter’s result. Both shutdowns are planned for Q2 FY27, the December quarter.
