Ripple announced Oct. 29 a three-year, $6 million commitment to Water.org and a $1.25 million Ripple USD (RLUSD) grant to expand WaterCredit lending in Indonesia, the Philippines and Uganda.

The grant is intended to support stablecoin-backed loans through WaterCredit. Ripple’s payment, stablecoin and digital-asset custody services will also be used to improve capital flows in emerging markets.

Ripple’s payment infrastructure has helped Water.org finance access to safe water or sanitation facilities for more than 1 million people in Latin America. Ripple Payments has moved more than $3.2 million across four markets. In Mexico and Brazil, settlement times shortened from two to three days to the same day, while transaction fees fell by as much as 66%.
