Optimism Foundation Proposes Ether Rebates for OP Mainnet Partners
The plan covers partners bringing key market expansion activity, with rebates capped at fees generated by activity attributable to each partner.

The Optimism Foundation proposed a rebate mechanism for OP Mainnet partners bringing key market expansion activity, with payouts capped at attributable fees and OP buybacks calculated after rebates.
OP Mainnet is an Ethereum layer-2 network. The proposal would use sequencer and priority fee revenue to pay rebates in Ether (ETH), rather than the Optimism (OP) token. Rebates would apply only to fees from activity tied to a specific partner. Each partner would need to meet agreed activity milestones, and each agreement would have a fixed term.
The Foundation would calculate OP buybacks using revenue remaining after rebates. The approved buyback program has purchased more than 9.4 million OP.
If approved, the Foundation could use the mechanism in partner agreements. Its annual budget report would show total rebates as a percentage range of OP Mainnet sequencer and priority fee revenue. The report would not disclose individual agreement terms, the number of agreements or partner identities.
