A fire broke out at Russia’s Novokuibyshevsk Oil Refinery in the Samara region on Friday, Oct. 30, after a Ukrainian drone attack, ending a two-week pause in attacks on Russian refineries.

The reported attack was the first strike on a Russian refinery since Oct. 15. The pause came amid pressure from the Trump administration to halt such operations.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine suspended refinery strikes during the first 72 hours of a truce while its forces focused on other targets. “There was all kinds of rhetoric, and no one thanked us for those three days,” Zelenskyy said.

He said Ukrainian forces also targeted data centers and locations where Russian ballistic missiles were concentrated.

The incident followed a fire at Russia’s Ryazan refinery during a Ukrainian drone attack on Oct. 15.
