Adrian Flux and Tokio Marine HCC International announced a UK home insurance policy for household humanoid robots Thursday, Oct. 29, covering the machines and some losses they may cause.

Adrian Flux offers the policy to UK home insurance customers, while Tokio Marine HCC International underwrites it. Coverage can include accidental damage to a robot, fire, theft or attempted theft, and sudden damage an insured robot causes to a home or insured belongings.

The policy may also cover liability tied to owning the robot and the cost of recovering or safely disabling it after an unexpected malfunction. Adrian Flux lists coverage of up to £5,000 for sudden damage to a home or insured belongings caused by an insured robot. That figure applies to this type of damage, not as a stated overall policy limit.

Premiums are tailored to each customer and their circumstances. The public product details do not list eligible robot models, full exclusions or a personal-liability limit.

Early U.S. home humanoid robot models had open pre-orders at $20,000 as of Oct. 29; the policy announcement did not name a model. Adrian Flux General Manager Gerry Bucke said, “Like the driverless car policy we launched in 2016, it will be updated as the technology and the risks evolve.”

Tokio Marine HCC International expects domestic robots to begin appearing in UK homes from 2027.
