PayPal lifted its full-year earnings-per-share outlook after third-quarter earnings per share (EPS) topped estimates, though revenue fell short of forecasts as financial companies posted varied results during the week.

PayPal beat estimates for third-quarter EPS but missed revenue estimates. The company also raised its full-year EPS guidance. Visa, Mastercard and S&P Global each beat estimates for both earnings and revenue and gave positive outlooks.

Among financial companies reporting during the week, 72.7% topped EPS estimates and 54.5% exceeded revenue estimates. Across 177 companies reporting in the same period, 81.4% beat EPS estimates and 71.8% exceeded revenue estimates.

The financial-sector ETF XLF gained 1.32% for the week, while the S&P 500 rose 0.77%.
