Rivian plans to begin a limited rollout of its driver-supervised Point to Point feature later this year, adding a software milestone as it ramps production of its R2 SUV and prepares broader subscriber access in 2027.

The initial release is planned for Rivian’s invitation-only Autonomy Early Access Program. Point to Point lets a driver enter a destination while the vehicle follows a route through city streets, stoplights and highway interchanges. It is an assisted-driving feature that requires the driver to supervise. Rivian expects broader availability for Autonomy+ subscribers in 2027; Autonomy+ is a paid software offering that began in April 2026.

Rivian produced 19,751 vehicles and delivered 19,248 in the three months ended Sept. 30, 2026. Deliveries were up 46% year over year, and the R2 was the company’s best-selling vehicle by volume that quarter.

Software and services revenue reached $605 million for the quarter, up 45% from a year earlier. The segment posted $256 million in gross profit, a 42% margin. The Volkswagen Group joint venture contributed $354 million, or 59%, of segment revenue. The segment also covers vehicle repair, maintenance and other services, so its total does not show Autonomy+ sales on their own. Autonomy+ take rates were trending ahead of expectations, but Rivian disclosed no figure.

Research and development expense was $485 million, compared with $453 million a year earlier. Higher software costs for AI and autonomy initiatives drove most of the increase, partly offset by lower spending on engineering, design and development.

Rivian expects to reach another Uber partnership milestone by the end of 2026, a step that could unlock another $250 million in equity investment. The Uber-Rivian plan calls for initial commercial R2 robotaxi deployments in San Francisco and Miami in 2028, followed by expansion to 25 cities by 2031, subject to milestones.
