Crosby, an AI-focused law firm, has bid to acquire some assets of Weil, Gotshal & Manges as the firm prepares to vote on dissolving in the coming days.

The offer includes Weil’s trademark, brand and unspecified internal data. Its terms have not been disclosed. Crosby is also seeking to hire some of Weil’s 1,200 lawyers, though there is no guarantee it will win the bid.

Weil’s planned wind-down follows its presumed successor declining the leadership role, the departure of several lawyers who brought in significant business, and the shelving of merger discussions with Willkie Farr & Gallagher.

Crosby uses internally developed AI to provide legal services. The two-year-old firm has raised about $85 million. Of the roughly $85 million Crosby has raised, $60 million came from a Series B round in March. Lux and Index led that round, with participation from Sequoia, Elad Gil, 01 Advisors and Bain Capital Ventures. Crosby emerged from stealth in 2025 with $5.8 million in seed funding.
