Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said the company holds about 150,000 Bitcoin (BTC) and has more than 730 million users, outlining the scale of its holdings and user base.
Tether adds about 30 million wallets each quarter, Ardoino said at the Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano.
Tether held about $122.8 billion in direct U.S. Treasury holdings for the third quarter, or about $132.4 billion including repurchase agreements, alongside $7.95 billion in excess reserves.
Ardoino outlined the “Independence Stack,” a plan to build open-source infrastructure spanning energy, Bitcoin mining, peer-to-peer communications, self-custody wallets and local artificial intelligence. He said the technology should continue operating even if Tether no longer exists.
