Tutor Intelligence announced a $75 million Series B on Nov. 2, bringing its total capital raised to $117 million as the Watertown, Massachusetts, robotics company expands robot-model training, manufacturing and deployment. Andreessen Horowitz led the round, with Union Square Ventures and Neo also participating.

Union Square Ventures led Tutor’s Series A, while Neo led its seed round. The new funding will support work on robot foundation models and the production and deployment of the company’s robots, Sonny and Cassie.

Tutor places robots in factories and warehouses, where remote human operators called tutors provide input as the machines work. Data from those tasks is used to train the company’s models. Cassie is a single-arm robot for material handling, while Sonny has two arms and is aimed first at e-commerce fulfillment.

Customers pay by the hour or by the pick, with no upfront purchase or long-term commitment. Tutor handles deployment, maintenance and software updates.

Tutor’s robots were operating in nearly four times as many facilities as a year earlier. Existing customers made up almost one-third of the organizations that received robots during the year before the announcement, adding units to their fleets.

The company is on track to have more than 1,000 robots under contract by the end of 2027, with those robots built in and deployed from the United States. “We can hardly build robots fast enough,” said Josh Gruenstein, Tutor’s co-founder and CEO.
