People familiar with the matter said Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang supported the proposed merger of Marvell and Lumentum, valued at nearly $103 billion. Marvell CEO Matt Murphy and Lumentum CEO Michael Hurlston spoke with Huang by phone before the announcement to seek his view of the deal.

Hurlston said Monday that Nvidia’s reaction was positive. “We believe the merger will allow us to provide Nvidia with a more diverse range of products more quickly,” he said.

Nvidia invested $2 billion in each company earlier this year.
