Operating profit by segment benefited from improved performance in Ag Services & Oilseeds and Carbohydrate Solutions. Only Carbohydrate Solutions beat its segment profit estimate; Ag Services & Oilseeds and Nutrition missed theirs. Favorable biofuels and ethanol margins, energy prices, soybean meal demand, policy incentives and domestic demand supported performance.
ADM expects year-over-year operating profit to improve in all three segments in the fourth quarter. The company had appeared on an earlier list of companies expected to report earnings.
