3M Adds $6 Billion to Buyback Authorization, Lifting Total to $7.5 Billion
The new approval adds to $1.5 billion left under the 2025 program. The board also declared a $0.78-per-share dividend payable Dec. 11.

3M’s board approved up to $6 billion in additional share repurchases on Nov. 3, lifting the company’s available buyback capacity to $7.5 billion and expanding its capital-return authorization for shareholders.
The new authorization adds to $1.5 billion remaining under the program approved in 2025. The board set no preset end date for the authorization. The $7.5 billion figure is the total available capacity, including the newly approved $6 billion and the amount left from the earlier program.
The authorization does not specify a share count or purchase schedule. 3M repurchased $3.2 billion of its stock in the first nine months of 2026, compared with $2.7 billion during the same period in 2025. Repurchases support stock-based employee compensation plans and other corporate purposes.
The board also declared a fourth-quarter dividend of $0.78 per share. Shareholders must be on record at the close of business Nov. 13 to receive the payment, which is scheduled for Dec. 11.
