Canva is restructuring 1,271 positions, affecting about 22% of its workforce, as growth slows for the first time in a decade and the design platform changes its product organization and office schedule.

Affected positions will be eliminated, changed or moved. The total covers all three types of changes, so it is not a count of employees who will leave. Canva has more than 5,000 employees.

Canva CEO Melanie Perkins described 2026 as the company’s most difficult year yet. Canva will combine its Product, Growth and Platform teams, and Sydney will become a core product hub.

Employees who leave will receive compensation of at least six months’ salary. The restructuring also changes office attendance expectations: Starting in January 2027, most employees will need to work in an office two or three days each week.
