Qualcomm and SpaceX announced Wednesday a collaboration to equip Starlink Mobile’s U.S. terrestrial 5G network. The package includes Layer 1 and Qualcomm’s QRU100 radio and QDU100 baseband units, both in the Dragonwing line.

The collaboration brings Qualcomm equipment and software into SpaceX’s plans for a ground-based 5G network under the Starlink Mobile name.

SpaceX has also pursued spectrum for Starlink Mobile through an agreement to acquire low-band licenses from Grain Management. The licenses cover paired spectrum in the 800 MHz band, with a maximum of 14 megahertz. The proposed transaction requires approval from the Federal Communications Commission.
