Vir Biotechnology Narrows Third-Quarter Net Loss to $96.3 Million
The company’s loss per share was $0.57, compared with $1.17 a year earlier. Cash, cash equivalents and investments totaled about $901.3 million at Sept. 30.

Vir Biotechnology narrowed its third-quarter net loss to $96.3 million as research spending fell, while its cash and investments are expected to fund operations into the second half of 2028.
For the quarter ended Sept. 30, the company recorded a loss of $0.57 per share, basic and diluted, compared with $1.17 per share a year earlier. Net loss was $163.1 million in the same quarter of 2025.
Research and development expenses declined to $80 million from $151.5 million. The decrease reflected a $75 million milestone expense in the year-earlier quarter and collaboration cost recoveries in the latest quarter. Higher manufacturing costs partly offset the decline.
Vir had about $901.3 million in cash, cash equivalents and investments at Sept. 30. The company expects those funds to support operations into the second half of 2028.
Vir expects topline data in the fourth quarter of 2026 from ECLIPSE 1, a Phase 3 trial evaluating elebsiran and tobevibart for chronic hepatitis delta. The study compares monthly injections with deferred treatment in the United States and other regions where bulevirtide use is limited.
