Aprea Therapeutics posted a third-quarter 2026 net loss of $4.81 million as spending on its APR-1051 cancer trial rose and the study expanded to nine active sites.

The loss for the quarter ended Sept. 30 compared with $2.97 million in Q3 2025. Basic and diluted loss per share narrowed to $0.09 from $0.47 over the same period.

Aprea’s weighted-average common shares rose to 53.68 million from 6.37 million a year earlier. The 2026 figure counted 39.8 million shares issuable through warrants exercisable for nominal consideration. Earnings per share divides a company’s result across its weighted-average shares, so the larger share count accompanied a lower per-share loss even as the total loss grew.

Cash and cash equivalents totaled $37.85 million on Sept. 30, compared with $14.60 million at Dec. 31, 2025. Aprea projected that its current operating plan would cover cash needs for operating expenses and capital expenditures into the first quarter of 2028.

Research and development expenses rose to $3.34 million from $1.64 million in Q3 2025. Aprea tied most of the increase to ACESOT-1051, a Phase 1 study of APR-1051, its oral WEE1 inhibitor. The clinical-stage oncology company is developing targeted treatments for cancers with defined biomarkers and has not commercialized any product candidates.

Aprea President and CEO Oren Gilad said, “We have expanded our clinical site network from three to nine active sites.” The company’s target enrollment pace for the fourth quarter of 2026 is six to 10 patients per month.

Aprea plans to enroll at least 50 patients across two groups: those with uterine serous carcinoma and those with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer whose tumors overexpress Cyclin E. Aprea expects to complete dose escalation and backfill expansion enrollment in Q2 2027. It plans to present updated interim results Nov. 20, 2026, at the 38th EORTC-NCI-AACR Symposium in Barcelona.
