Samlyn Capital is shifting its stock portfolio toward global financial companies and cutting senior analysts, concentrating its research team on a sector Rob Pohly has focused on for decades.

The $7 billion equity hedge fund sold shares in industrials, technology, retail and other sectors several weeks before a recent market selloff. The fund was down about 5% year to date as of October.

Samlyn is keeping analysts who cover financial companies and has not returned the sale proceeds to investors. The money is being reinvested in financial stocks or held as cash for future use. The fund plans to trade mainly global financial stocks.
