Thermo Fisher Scientific announced Nov. 5 that its board approved an authorization for up to $5 billion in stock repurchases, replacing a prior program with $1 billion of capacity still unused.

The earlier program also had a $5 billion limit and was approved Nov. 6, 2025. Thermo Fisher had $1 billion remaining under it as of Sept. 26, so the new authorization does not add another $5 billion on top of that balance.

The new authorization has no expiration date. Thermo Fisher can acquire shares on the open market or through negotiated transactions. The company did not provide a purchase timetable or projected total.

During the first nine months of 2026, Thermo Fisher repurchased $4 billion of stock, equal to 6.9 million shares. It made no repurchases in the third quarter.
