Potential investors are discussing a $1.2 trillion to $1.3 trillion valuation for Anthropic’s planned IPO, putting it below earlier expectations after a sharp selloff in technology shares.

The range has not been finalized. Anthropic plans to begin its formal IPO roadshow next week. The company and any shareholders selling shares could start with a more conservative offering size and valuation, then adjust them based on early investor feedback. Delaying the listing is another option.

Some investors had put Anthropic’s potential value as high as $2 trillion in early October. After the company’s latest financial briefing, their expectations shifted to about $1.4 trillion to $1.5 trillion before the current lower range emerged.

On Thursday, Nov. 5, the Nasdaq 100 fell 6.4%, shedding about $2.3 trillion in market value in one session. HSBC chief multi-asset strategist Max Kettner has said a valuation near $1 trillion could be more reassuring and help limit sharp swings after trading begins.
