Digital Asset Investor called Moody’s Ratings’ Ripple USD (RLUSD) assessment potentially the biggest of several recent developments involving the stablecoin, BNY and Coinbase, and said XRP sits at their center.
The A2 long-term and P-1 short-term ratings apply to RLUSD, issued by Ripple subsidiary Standard Custody & Trust Company. P-1 is the top short-term tier in Moody’s stablecoin assessment system. RLUSD’s reserve coverage exceeds 103%, with most backing held in cash and short-term Treasury bills.
Digital Asset Investor (@digitalassetbuy) grouped the rating with BNY’s role as primary custodian for RLUSD’s reserves and Coinbase’s support for the stablecoin on retail and institutional platforms. In a video attached to an X post, he said, “XRP is at the center of all of it.”
RLUSD and XRP serve different functions. RLUSD transactions on the XRP Ledger require XRP to pay network fees, so stablecoin activity can add ledger use. Broader RLUSD adoption alone does not show that XRP purchases will rise at a matching rate.
