Metaplanet Adds 797 Bitcoin as BTC Hits Record High Above $121K

Metaplanet Inc (TYO:3350), a Tokyo-listed firm transitioning from hospitality to digital assets, announced the purchase of 797 additional Bitcoin on Monday, signaling its ongoing aggressive crypto accumulation strategy. The latest acquisition, made at an average price of approximately $117,451 per Bitcoin, boosts the company’s total Bitcoin holdings to 16,352 BTC.

The move comes as Bitcoin surged to a new all-time high of $121,156.4 before easing slightly to $121,010.4 as of 04:19 GMT. The leading cryptocurrency has seen renewed momentum, driven by robust institutional demand, record spot Bitcoin ETF inflows, and anticipation of crypto-friendly regulatory developments in the United States.

Metaplanet's transformation from a traditional hotel operator to a major corporate Bitcoin holder reflects a broader trend of companies diversifying into digital assets. The firm now ranks among the top public companies by Bitcoin treasury size, joining the likes of MicroStrategy and Marathon Digital.

Despite the strategic move, Metaplanet shares showed little reaction and remained largely flat in Monday trading. Still, the company's consistent Bitcoin accumulation positions it as a significant player in the growing intersection of traditional finance and cryptocurrency.

With increasing institutional confidence and favorable regulatory tailwinds, Bitcoin's bullish trajectory continues to attract corporate treasuries worldwide, reinforcing its emerging role as a digital store of value.
