Cardano (ADA) gained around 10% as investors shifted their attention from the network’s latest completed upgrade to its long-term scalability roadmap. The rally suggests the market is increasingly valuing Cardano’s future development plans rather than the improvements already delivered through the recent protocol update.

Development on the upcoming Dijkstra era has officially begun, according to Intersect, the organization that oversees Cardano’s open-source development and governance. The announcement follows the successful activation of the van Rossem hard fork on July 18, which upgraded the blockchain to Version 11 and introduced improvements to Plutus performance, ledger consistency, and node security.

Unlike previous upgrades, the Dijkstra era will be rolled out in multiple phases instead of a single release. Planned features include Nested Transactions, Linear Leios, and Peras, all of which are part of the broader Ouroboros Leios research initiative. These upgrades are designed to significantly increase transaction throughput while maintaining Cardano’s focus on decentralization and network security.

The Haskell node team is targeting the end of 2026 to bring Nested Transactions and Linear Leios to the Cardano mainnet. At the same time, Intersect continues expanding the network’s governance model, allowing stakeholders to help shape future hard forks and protocol changes.

Cardano researcher Dr. Cuadrado said the van Rossem upgrade focused on improving the blockchain’s core infrastructure, while Dijkstra aims to enable higher transaction capacity and support more advanced decentralized applications. He also highlighted Cardano’s research-driven development strategy as a key differentiator.

Additional ecosystem updates include an open governance vote on new minPoolCost and Plutus memory parameters, audited Constitutional Committee election results, the alpha launch of the CAP Portal, and completion of the Eryx ZK Bridge.

Despite the recent rally, ADA remains about 95% below its all-time high of $3.09 reached in September 2021. Investors should also note that roadmap announcements carry execution risks, particularly with long development timelines. Sustained gains will likely depend on successful implementation, stronger developer activity, growing decentralized application adoption, and higher total value locked across the Cardano ecosystem.
