Bitcoin traded near $79,972 after gaining 0.43% over the past 24 hours, keeping the possibility of a move toward $85,000 in focus as broader crypto market sentiment strengthened.

The global cryptocurrency market capitalization rose 0.98% to $2.72 trillion, reflecting improved risk appetite among investors. Solana led major altcoins with a 4.07% gain to $106.57, while Ethereum climbed 2.02% to $2,502.82. XRP advanced 1.23% to $1.42, and BNB gained 0.60% to $757.21.

Market sentiment also remains bullish, with CoinMarketCap’s Crypto Fear and Greed Index at 75, firmly within the “greed” zone.

Several catalysts could determine whether the Bitcoin price can break above $85,000. One key event is the anticipated Sept. 15 Senate cloture vote on the CLARITY Act. Progress on the legislation could boost confidence by moving the U.S. closer to a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets, including defined responsibilities for the SEC and CFTC.

Monetary policy could also drive Bitcoin volatility. The Federal Open Market Committee meets Sept. 15-16, with updated economic projections expected. Prediction market Kalshi currently gives Bitcoin a 77% probability of reaching $85,000 before Oct. 2. From around $79,972, BTC would need to rise roughly 6.3% to hit that target.

Institutional demand provides another potential tailwind. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $175 million in net inflows on Sept. 4, marking their third consecutive positive session. BlackRock’s IBIT led with $117 million, followed by Fidelity with $57.22 million. Spot Ethereum ETFs also attracted $26.46 million in net inflows.

Technically, Bitcoin continues to hold above the important $79,500 support level after facing selling pressure near $82,000. The four-hour RSI stands at 55.20, suggesting neutral momentum with modest buying strength.

However, the MACD remains cautious, with the MACD line at 327.50 below the 393.86 signal line. Holding $79,500 could set up another test of $82,000, while a decisive Bitcoin breakout above $82,000 may clear the way for a rally toward $85,000.
