XRP price climbed 3.77% on September 9, trading around $1.43 as increased whale activity, spot ETF inflows and bullish derivatives positioning supported the cryptocurrency despite uncertainty surrounding the U.S. CLARITY Act.
CryptoQuant data shows XRP’s Whale-Retail Spread surged from 33% to 45.8%, indicating that large transactions are increasingly outpacing smaller retail trades. On Binance, the metric also increased from 35.6% on July 28 to 36.3% on September 9.
The growing gap comes as XRP whale buying appears to be recovering. The 30-day moving average of Whale Flow suggests large holders have resumed accumulating XRP even as the token trades within the $1.40-$1.43 range.
Institutional demand is also providing support. SoSoValue data showed U.S. spot XRP ETFs attracted $1.55 million in net inflows on September 8. XRP was the only one among the five largest crypto ETF categories by net assets to post positive flows.
The gains come despite deteriorating expectations for the CLARITY Act, with prediction markets placing the probability of passage in 2026 at just 15%. A Senate vote is scheduled for September 15, while Republican lawmakers have warned the legislation could fail without White House approval of proposed ethics provisions.
Derivatives markets are showing stronger bullish positioning as well. XRP’s funding rate increased from 0.0030% on September 8 to about 0.0098%, reflecting higher demand for leveraged long positions. The overall long-to-short ratio stood at 1.02, while Binance and OKX readings reached 2.26 and 2.3, respectively.
From a technical perspective, XRP is testing key resistance around $1.43, which aligns with the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement and the upper boundary of a falling parallel channel. A breakout could open the way toward the August 22 high of $1.699 and potentially the 161.8% Fibonacci target near $2.13.
The 20-day EMA crossing above the 200-day EMA adds to the bullish XRP price outlook. However, failure to break $1.43, particularly if the Chaikin Money Flow turns negative from its current 0.09 reading, could send XRP back toward $1.35 support.
