Ripple has participated in a $10 million funding extension for stablecoin payments platform Velocity, strengthening its investment in infrastructure designed to connect traditional finance with blockchain-based settlement systems.
The latest investment expands Velocity’s funding round to $48 million and gives the London-based fintech company a valuation of approximately $200 million. San Francisco-based Ripple, best known for its links to the XRP cryptocurrency and XRP Ledger, was already an investor in Velocity before the funding extension.
Other investors backing the round include Activant Capital, Capital One Ventures, QED Investors, Coinbase Ventures and Wintermute Ventures, highlighting growing institutional interest in stablecoin payment infrastructure.
Founded in 2025, Velocity is developing technology aimed at making payment settlements faster and more efficient by connecting existing financial infrastructure with stablecoin rails. Its platform allows stablecoins to function as an always-available settlement layer, potentially enabling transactions outside traditional banking hours.
Velocity primarily targets merchants, banks and other financial institutions, fintech firms and payment service providers seeking to integrate stablecoin liquidity into their operations.
The company has also been expanding its presence in mainstream payments. Earlier in September, Velocity and MVB Financial announced MVB’s participation in a Visa Direct pilot. Velocity’s technology enables stablecoin-based liquidity to be connected directly with MVB’s financial infrastructure, demonstrating how blockchain-based assets could support established payment networks.
Ripple’s investment comes as the company continues to expand its own stablecoin strategy. Ripple launched RLUSD, which has grown to a market capitalization of roughly $2.4 billion, according to CoinGecko data cited in the original report, ranking it as the 42nd-largest cryptocurrency by market value.
Ripple has also pursued acquisitions in the stablecoin payments sector. In August 2025, the company agreed to acquire stablecoin payments firm Rail for $200 million.
The expanded Velocity investment underscores Ripple’s broader push into stablecoins and payment infrastructure as blockchain companies compete to bring digital-asset settlement technology deeper into traditional finance.
