Cardano’s ADA price climbed roughly 4% over the past 24 hours, reaching its highest level in four months as investors reacted to the blockchain’s integration with the x402 payment standard for AI agents.
x402 is an open HTTP payment protocol originally developed by Coinbase in 2025 before moving under Linux Foundation governance. The technology revives the HTTP 402 “Payment Required” status code, allowing artificial intelligence agents and other automated software to make blockchain payments directly over the web.
Under the system, an AI agent requesting a paid service, such as an API call or dataset, receives pricing information from the provider. The agent can then authorize a transaction, which is verified and settled on-chain by a facilitator before the requested resource is delivered. The process eliminates the need for conventional accounts, API keys and checkout pages.
Cardano Foundation engineers developed x402 client, server and facilitator components after Cardano’s specification was incorporated into the official x402 repository around September 9. The integration is now available as a TypeScript package through npm, while Python support is expected later.
A facilitator has already completed a transaction using Cardano’s pre-production testing network. However, the x402 integration has not yet been deployed on Cardano mainnet.
Cardano is entering an increasingly competitive market for AI agent payments. XRP Ledger has reportedly handled more than 1.4 million AI-agent transactions using x402, while Coinbase says more than 100 million x402 payments have been processed across Base and Solana.
ADA’s latest rally also coincides with improving technical momentum. Market analysts have highlighted Cardano’s move above a multi-year resistance zone, raising expectations that the cryptocurrency could be entering a broader recovery phase.
The combination of stronger price action and new blockchain utility has helped fuel renewed interest in ADA. Machine-to-machine payments remain an emerging use case, however, and Cardano’s longer-term impact will depend heavily on developer adoption once x402 support reaches mainnet.
