Bitcoin (BTC) held its rebound Wednesday after a procedural Senate vote blocked the CLARITY Act from advancing, shifting attention toward the Securities and Exchange Commission’s existing authority over crypto markets.

The vote kept the legislation from entering formal Senate consideration. Bitcoin remained strong despite the setback, leaving the market focused on regulatory action that may proceed without a new law.

The SEC could use its current authority to develop rules covering crypto trading, tokenized assets and market access. That makes the agency’s rulemaking path a central focus as lawmakers remain unable to move the bill forward.

The impasse also limits the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s ability to gain broader short-term authority over digital-asset markets.
