U.S. Futures Slide as Oil Gains and Gold, Silver Prices Fall

Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures all declined before the open, while IonQ shares jumped 12% after a quantum-computing test.

U.S. stock futures pointed to a lower open as oil prices moved higher and precious metals declined, setting a weaker tone across major markets before trading began.

Dow futures were down 0.31%, while futures tied to the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 fell 0.12% and 0.27%, respectively.

Oil prices moved in the opposite direction. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 0.16% to $90.669 a barrel, while Brent crude futures gained 0.94% to $96.305.

Spot gold declined 1.06% to $4,312 an ounce. Spot silver dropped 3.03% to $65.

IonQ shares gained 12% in premarket trading after the quantum-computing company completed testing of a real-time quantum error-correction decoder. The system operates on one standard commercial CPU and simulated circuits with as many as 408 logical qubits and more than 31.5 million quantum operations.

European equities also weakened. The FTSE 100 fell 0.20%, France's CAC 40 declined 0.35% and Germany's DAX 30 lost 0.73%.

Qualcomm released two flagship Snapdragon chips using a 2-nanometer manufacturing process, with CPU speeds reaching five gigahertz. Anthropic entered preliminary discussions to lease as much as 1 gigawatt of computing capacity from a data-center developer affiliated with Apollo Global Management.
