Brazil ranked first among 117 countries in the 2026 global crypto adoption index, with the United States second as domestic peer-to-peer transfers and cross-border stablecoin activity expanded.

Brazil’s crypto economy totaled $252.5 billion. The country did not lead any of the four categories — service inflows, domestic peer-to-peer activity, cross-border flows or on-chain balances — but placed among the top four in each.

The United States ranked first in total flows and on-chain balances. It placed 20th in domestic peer-to-peer activity and 11th in cross-border flows, while Nigeria led both of those categories.

Japan, South Korea, India, Ukraine, Thailand, South Africa and Canada completed the top 10.

The global crypto economy declined 1.6% despite a roughly 50% fall in total cryptocurrency market capitalization. Its value fell from $9.5 trillion to $9.4 trillion in the 12 months through June 30, while the market-capitalization decline totaled $2.1 trillion.

The value moving through crypto services, including exchanges and decentralized finance platforms, dropped 4.3% to $8.9 trillion. Domestic peer-to-peer transfers rose 302.9% to $228.7 billion, with stablecoins accounting for 96% of that activity.

Cross-border stablecoin transfers increased 77.5% to $220.3 billion. The average transaction was about $3,000, while transfers below $100 grew 78.4% and transactions between $100 and $1,000 increased 58.6%.

Global on-chain holdings declined from a September 2025 peak of $860 billion to $440 billion. Stablecoin balances remained between $98 billion and $109 billion, representing 22.5% of total on-chain value.
