XRP closed above $1.544 on Sept. 22 after four failed breakout attempts in 2026, marking a move through a level that had capped daily closes since February.

The latest failed attempt came on Aug. 22. XRP later moved above $1.60 as activity among large holders increased and new-wallet creation spiked.

The market’s derivatives activity also expanded during XRP’s August price gains. Higher open interest can reflect greater participation, but increased leverage can leave traders more exposed to rapid price moves.

Bitwise filed a revised registration for a spot XRP exchange-traded fund on Sept. 18. Spot XRP ETFs also recorded inflows during most of September.

Bitcoin’s move above $82,800 gave altcoin market participants more bullish conviction. XRP’s advance followed a move above the $1.50 area, which had limited trading since February.

Excess leverage could increase volatility and lead to swift corrections.
