Saudi Arabia Says It Intercepted Six Houthi Missiles Targeting Yanbu and Taif
The missiles targeted Taif and Yanbu, while danger alerts covered five Saudi cities before authorities said the threat had passed.
Saudi Arabia said it intercepted and destroyed six ballistic missiles targeting Taif and Yanbu on Thursday, raising fresh security concerns around a Red Sea port tied to the kingdom’s crude exports.
Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki, a Saudi coalition spokesman, said the missiles were launched by the Houthi group. Saudi authorities issued danger alerts covering Yanbu, Jeddah, Tabuk, Mecca and Taif before declaring that the threat had passed.
The stated targets were Taif and Yanbu in western Saudi Arabia. Yanbu’s location on the Red Sea makes attacks near the city relevant to oil shipments and regional maritime security, particularly during disruptions to Persian Gulf shipping.
Saudi Arabia has attributed a series of missile and drone incidents to the Houthis during September. The Houthi group had not immediately claimed responsibility for the latest launches.
