Iran says it will not compromise on its nuclear program and will keep the Strait of Hormuz closed until the United States meets all of Tehran’s conditions, maintaining a potential risk for oil and global markets.
Iran has proposed a seven-day plan linking the waterway’s reopening to an end to hostilities across multiple regions, the lifting of a U.S. maritime blockade on Iranian ports, the release of frozen Iranian assets and the cancellation of oil sanctions.
The plan would make reopening the strait dependent on U.S. action rather than a standalone maritime decision. Iran has not indicated that it would accept nuclear concessions as part of the arrangement.
The Strait of Hormuz is a major shipping route, making the dispute relevant to energy markets and broader financial conditions. Its reopening remains conditional on Washington satisfying Tehran’s stated demands.
