Foreign Investors Hold $24.32 Trillion in U.S. Stocks in July
Overseas investors’ holdings reached their third-highest level on record, while stocks made up a record 60% of their U.S. financial assets.
Investors outside the United States held $24.32 trillion in U.S. stocks in July, marking the third-highest level on record and a record allocation to U.S. equities within their U.S. financial assets.
Foreign holdings of U.S. stocks increased by $2.22 trillion, or 10%, this year. Since the 2022 bear market, the value of those holdings has climbed by $12.3 trillion, a 103% increase.
U.S. stocks represented 60% of foreign investors’ U.S. financial assets in July, the highest share on record. That was about 6 percentage points above the peak reached during the 2000 dot-com bubble.
