Bitcoin (BTC) is up 7.33% in September through Sept. 29, putting it ahead of 2024 for the strongest monthly performance in its historical series if the gain holds.

The return narrowly exceeds September 2024’s 7.29% gain. Bitcoin must close the month above approximately $83,600 to preserve the record when the Sept. 30 monthly candle closes.

A positive finish would give Bitcoin four consecutive September gains. The asset rose 3.91% in September 2023, 7.29% in 2024 and 5.16% in 2025.

September has historically been Bitcoin’s weakest month, with declines in eight of the 13 years from 2013 through 2025. The month also recorded six consecutive losses from 2017 through 2022, with an average return of negative 2.34%.

The September ranking will be settled by the monthly close on Sept. 30.
