Cardano’s ADA is testing a long-term resistance line after nearly nine years of price compression, with the token still far below its 2021 peak and a breakout yet to be confirmed.

ADA was trading at $0.2478 at press time, 92.1% below its all-time high of $3.09 reached in September 2021.

The long-term chart shows ADA repeatedly holding a rising support line, apart from the sharp disruption during the COVID-19 crash. A descending resistance line from the 2021 peak has capped rallies, forming a narrowing wedge between the rising floor and falling ceiling.

The pattern has four main phases: expansion from 2018 to 2021, prolonged compression from 2021 through 2026, a failed resistance break in 2025 and support holding in 2026 as ADA makes another run at resistance.

ADA moved above $1 during the 2025 breakout before falling back into the broader range. The current setup does not confirm a breakout. A weekly close above resistance followed by a successful retest would provide confirmation, with the former ceiling needing to hold as support.

Trading activity has increased as ADA approaches the narrowing end of the pattern. The chart’s volume indicator showed roughly $307 million.

Van Tassel rejected the description of ADA as a “dead coin,” arguing that its extended consolidation resembles patterns developing across other altcoins. That view treats the token’s limited movement as part of a broader market structure rather than conclusive evidence of a failed asset.

Van Tassel also linked a possible shift in altcoin activity to expanding blockchain adoption and decentralized finance. The view places Bitcoin (BTC) primarily in a store-of-value role while blockchain networks take on a broader range of financial functions.
