ISM Manufacturing PMI Slips to 54.5 as Prices Index Climbs to 77.9

The factory activity measure remained above the 50-point expansion threshold for a ninth consecutive month. New orders and employment indexes also rose.

The U.S. manufacturing PMI eased to 54.5 in September, but remained in expansion for a ninth consecutive month as the prices index rose 6.8 points to 77.9.

The Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing PMI was down 0.1 point from August’s 54.6. Readings above 50 indicate expansion.

The prices index climbed from 71.1. The new orders index rose to 55.3, and employment increased to 52.7. Production declined to 56.7, while inventories slipped to 48.6.
