The Securities and Exchange Commission approved a Cboe BZX Exchange rule change allowing Volatility Shares to list a 3x Bitcoin ETF, clearing the way for a new U.S. exchange-traded product tied to Bitcoin futures.

The SEC order covers six funds under the VS Trust: the Bitcoin product, a 3x Ether ETF and leveraged funds tied to gold, silver, crude oil and natural gas. Trading can begin after each product’s registration statement becomes effective; each must have at least 100,000 shares outstanding at its opening.

The Bitcoin ETF seeks three times the daily performance of a benchmark based on Bitcoin futures, before fees and expenses. It will gain exposure through futures contracts and hold cash and cash equivalents as collateral, rather than directly owning Bitcoin (BTC).

The 3x target applies to daily performance. Compounding over longer periods can cause a fund’s returns to differ from three times the benchmark’s cumulative change. The SEC approval covers the exchange’s listing rule change; it does not establish when trading will begin.
