Bitcoin (BTC) neared $87,000 early Monday before falling below $86,000, leaving it short of the $87,397 peak from Sept. 21.

The brief advance did not establish a sustained move above the September high. Prices can vary across exchanges and data providers.

The move followed the release of U.S. employment figures Friday, Oct. 2, at 8:30 a.m. ET (12:30 UTC). Employers added 29,000 jobs in September, while unemployment was 4.2%.

The employment figures preceded the rally, which faded below the September high.
