Litecoin marked 15 years since its genesis block as Grayscale pursues plans to convert its Litecoin Trust into an exchange-traded product on NYSE Arca, potentially giving U.S. investors access through a conventional exchange structure.

Introduced in October 2011, Litecoin was designed around a 2.5-minute average block time and a planned maximum supply of roughly 84 million LTC. The network was created as a faster alternative to Bitcoin (BTC) for smaller transactions.

Shares of the Grayscale Litecoin Trust currently trade over the counter under the LTCN ticker. A September registration-statement amendment calls for renaming the vehicle the Grayscale Litecoin Trust ETF and listing its shares on NYSE Arca.

The conversion has not been completed. The trust’s public offering will proceed only if the required listing authorization is granted or Grayscale determines that the authorization is no longer necessary.

The NYSE Arca application represents the product’s next concrete milestone. If completed, it would move Litecoin exposure from an over-the-counter trust to an exchange-traded product available through a conventional U.S. market venue.
