More than $600 million in leveraged long positions were liquidated across crypto markets as Bitcoin retreated toward $83,000 ahead of minutes from the Federal Reserve’s Federal Open Market Committee.

Bitcoin (BTC) failed to hold above $87,000 before slipping lower, putting pressure on traders who had positioned for further gains. The liquidations forced leveraged long positions out of the market as prices moved against them.

Ether (ETH) and other major altcoins recorded deeper losses than Bitcoin, turning the initial BTC decline into a broader retreat across crypto assets. The move reflects a broader pullback in risk appetite ahead of the FOMC minutes.

The market is now focused on the release of the FOMC minutes for additional detail on the central bank’s policy outlook.
