About $2.16 billion in Bitcoin and Ether options are scheduled to expire Friday, Oct. 9, putting a sizable derivatives position at a key settlement point for crypto markets.
The expiration includes about 22,000 Bitcoin (BTC) options with a combined notional value of $1.84 billion. Their put-call ratio is 1.12, and the maximum-pain level — the price at which option holders collectively face the most loss at expiration — is $84,000.
About 123,000 Ether (ETH) options are also set to expire, representing $320 million in notional value. The contracts have a put-call ratio of 0.71 and a maximum-pain level of $2,650.
Friday’s settlement accounts for about 6% of open Bitcoin options and 9% of open Ether options. Implied volatility across major maturities has continued to decline, while options buyers have shown limited willingness to pay higher prices for exposure to future market moves.
