WTI crude futures jumped 3% intraday to $90.93 a barrel on Oct. 8 after the Pentagon asked U.S. Central Command to prepare for a possible resumption of major operations against Iran.

The preparation does not represent a final decision to launch an operation. President Donald Trump has not approved a specific action or established a date for any potential strikes.

The timing under discussion could come before the Nov. 3 U.S. midterm elections or ahead of Israel’s Oct. 27 election. No final decision or specific strike date has been announced.
