Ether Slips Below Lower Bollinger Band as Short-Term Momentum Stalls

Ether traded at $2,571.66 on Oct. 8 after a 1.71% 24-hour decline, while low Stochastic readings contrasted with a zero MACD histogram.

Ether (ETH) traded at $2,571.66 on Oct. 8, down 1.71% over 24 hours, as the token slipped below its short-term moving averages and lower Bollinger Band while momentum indicators offered no clear direction.

The 24-hour range was $2,538.06 to $2,622.04, with about $877.8 million in spot volume. ETH traded below its seven-day simple moving average of $2,662.33, 20-day average of $2,682.62, 12-period exponential moving average of $2,654.53 and 26-period exponential moving average of $2,619.40.

ETH was slightly below the lower Bollinger Band at $2,586.87. The middle band stood at $2,682.62, while the upper band was $2,778.37 and the %B reading was -0.0781.

The Stochastic oscillator’s %K reading was 14.15 and %D was 11.32, both below 20, supporting an oversold reading. The 14-period daily relative strength index was 45.14.

The moving average convergence divergence line and signal line were both 35.1335, leaving the histogram at 0.0000. The flat reading provided no directional confirmation.

ETH remained above its 50-day average at $2,553.41 and its 200-day average at $2,130.14. The positioning left longer-term averages below the current price while short-term averages remained overhead.

Spot-derived technical levels placed the pivot at $2,577.25. Immediate resistance was $2,616.45, followed by strong resistance at $2,661.23. Immediate support was $2,532.47, with strong support at $2,493.27.

Derivatives positioning was mixed. Futures data showed an eight-hour funding rate of -0.0033%, open interest of about 2.39 million contracts, or roughly $6.24 billion in notional value. Open interest increased 1.05% over 24 hours.

At 3 a.m. ET (07:00 UTC), the global account long-short ratio was 3.3215, with 76.9% of positions long and 23.1% short. Among top traders, the ratio was 2.3411, with 70.1% long and 29.9% short.

The setup places $2,577.25 at the center of the nearest technical range, with $2,616.45 and $2,661.23 above it and $2,532.47 and $2,493.27 below it. Ether’s latest technical positioning follows an earlier TokenPost analysis of ETH’s support and resistance levels.
