Crypto Market Cap Drops 4.39% to $2.80 Trillion as Bitcoin Falls

Bitcoin (BTC) and major cryptocurrencies moved lower Thursday morning as the total crypto market capitalization fell 4.39% to $2.80 trillion.
BTC traded at $82,216 at 9:03 a.m. ET (13:03 UTC) on Oct. 8, down 1.59% over 24 hours. Trading volume across the crypto market reached $101.21 billion during the period.
Ether (ETH) declined 1.55% to $2,527, while XRP fell 3.53% to $1.39. BNB dropped 1.21% to $758.71, Solana (SOL) lost 3.96% to $111.86, and Dogecoin (DOGE) slipped 2.29% to $0.0867.
Bitcoin held 58.8% of the total crypto market, compared with an 11.0% share for Ether.
Among the 38 largest cryptocurrencies, Ondo (ONDO) posted the strongest performance, rising 3.52%. Pump.fun (PUMP) recorded the weakest result, falling 9.58%.
Derivatives markets recorded $270.6 million in liquidations across Binance, Bybit and OKX over the same 24-hour period. Long positions made up $237.4 million, while short positions accounted for $33.1 million.
